In April 2006, the first regional solidarity market of Quebec was established in Sherbrooke by a citizen initiative. From 2002 to 2006, the federation Les AmiEs de la Terre de l’Estrie decided to adopt the formula of agriculture supported by the community popularized by Équiterre. The formula consists in buying a part of a farm production in advance and picking up the product delivered regularly by the farm. Having its limits, the formula was improved in 2006 by creating an online shop where the consumer can make a selection of food according to his needs before getting it in a predefined place. The great popularity of the Market influenced other communities to offer this extraordinary food autonomy service to their customers.
